The Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa) founded on July 2013 has been the result of a merger process between the former Technical University of Lisbon (UTL) and the University of Lisbon (UL). ULisboa extends the continuity of both institutions recognized scientific and cultural traditions.
As a privileged space of science and knowledge, the ULisboa is today, one of the major institutions of Higher Education in Europe and one of the leading University in the country.
ULisboa is deeply involved with Portuguese society and with Lisbon Metropolitan Area. So we cannot dissociate ULisboa from the city where it is situated – Lisboa.
In 1288, the first Portuguese University was established in Lisbon. In 1537, the University was transferred to Coimbra. From the late eighteenth century, higher education was reestablished in the capital, Lisbon. With the first Republic , in 1911, Universidade de Lisboa was born and, later on, in 1930, was founded, the Universidade Técnica de Lisboa , both resulting from more than seven centuries of history. History that was heritage by the ULisboa .

The School of Tourism and Maritime Technology of the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, ESTM – IPL is located in Peniche, Portugal, facing the Atlantic Ocean, one hour by car from Lisbon to the North. ESTM – IPL is a privileged place to study, with fine people, Berlengas’ natural marine reserve as landscape, sandy beaches and many diving and surf spots in the vicinity.
The School of Tourism and Maritime Technology is a public school of higher education that promotes knowledge, creates, transmits and disseminates culture, science, technology, guided research and experimental development.
Furthermore, ESTM has a strong connection to the community that surrounds it and the quality patterns that lead it also intend to provide a suitable answer to the needs of the region. The Polytechnic Institute of Leiria (IPL) is located in the Leiria district and integrates 11,500 students and 885 teachers. ESTM is one of the schools of IPL, it has 130 teachers and 1300 students.

By signing “Scientiae Thesaurus Mirabilis”, King Dinis created the oldest university of the country and one of the oldest in the world. Dated from 1290, the document originated the General Study, recognised in the same year by Pope Nicholas IV. A century after the birth of the nation, the University of Coimbra germinated. It starts operating in Lisbon but, in 1308, it is transferred to Coimbra, alternating between the two cities until 1537, when it is definitely settled in the city of river Mondego.
Initially confined to the Royal Palace, the University spread throughout the city of Coimbra, while modifying its landscape and making of it the University City. It later enlarged with the creation of Pole II, dedicated to Engineering and Technology, and with a third pole devoted to Life Sciences.
To study at the University of Coimbra is to pursue the intellectual history of the country in the school that graduated some of the most distinguished personalities of national culture, science and politics.
With over seven centuries, the University of Coimbra has a unique tangible and intangible heritage, keystone in the scientific culture of Europe and the World; a capital that the University of Coimbra has applied to UNESCO World Heritage.
